What we cover
The site covers how certification courses are structured, the theory, pool skills, open water dives, gear basics, dive safety, fitness to dive, choosing a school and what comes after, plus a glossary.
Who it is for
The pages assume no background. They suit people deciding whether to learn, students about to start a course and new divers who want a plain refresher on what they were taught. Friends and family of a new diver may find them useful too, as may anyone comparing schools before booking a first course.
How to read the site
If you are new, start with how courses are structured, then read the safety and fitness pages before you book anything. Keep the glossary open while you study your course materials.
How we handle facts and figures
- We describe courses in general terms that apply across training agencies, and we say so when details vary.
- Figures such as depth limits, ascent rates and safety stops differ between agencies and courses. We round them, say "about" and point you to your own course materials.
- Pressure figures assume seawater and are rounded. Fresh water and altitude change them slightly.
- We don't publish prices, ratings or rankings, and we don't recommend training agencies, schools or equipment brands.
What this site is not
We are not a dive school, a training agency, an equipment seller or a medical service. Reading these pages doesn't train or certify you to dive. Learn with a certified instructor, use your training agency's own materials as the authority on procedures and limits, and ask a doctor about fitness to dive.
About the design
The depth gauge on the home page is drawn by code from a short list of depths. Each bubble's size comes from the pressure at that depth, so the drawing follows the same physics your course will teach. The wave artwork is decoration.

About FAQ
Do you sell courses or gear?
No. Despite the web address, nothing is for sale here. There are no partner links, and nobody pays for coverage.
Can I use this instead of my course materials?
No. Use it as background reading. Your course materials and your instructor are the authority on everything you will do underwater.
